Harris Rosen’s dream is a continuous trail from Orlando to the Everglades starting right at Rosen’s Shingle Creek Resort. Friday a group of kayakers started on that trail, but first they got some advice and supplies from Tangelo Elementary.
The 140-mile trip will take 12 days and end at Lake Okeechobee. Before leaving the urban areas behind, the group made a stop at Shingle Creek management area, where Hunters Creek Elementary students were waiting, working on biology experiments, and asking kayakers how Florida can fight polluted waters.
At the end of Day One, the kayakers set-up camp on Makinson Island. Saturday, the team will head down to Lake Toho and the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes on its way to the Kissimmee River.
