Frontline Outreach is seen as a pillar of the Orlando community, but over time the mainstay was in need of renovations.
News 13's Tiffany Greene tells us how the urban ministry is giving its facility a facelift -- including a new baskeball court -- in hopes of attracting more kids from the neighborhood.
Frontline Outreach is a ministry usually known for it's early childhood programs. But now it is reaching out to kids of all ages -- offering them a newer, safer environment to play.
"I think we will attract more kids from the neighborhood. We serve roughly 500 kids a year. I think we will probably get a hundred more with our new basketball courts that are more suited to the children who live in the apartment communities," said Arto Woodley, Jr., the chief executive officer of Frontline.
Frontline Outreach is making some major changes. One 5,000 square foot area has received all-new lighting. In addition, the playground area is also receiving some much-needed upgrades. What may seem like a few repairs to some, is a big deal for Frontline and the young people it serves.
"The expanded capacity to get kids to school ready and to equip them as leaders in this community, to reach a hundred more families in that way is phenomenal," Woodley said.'
Through city funds and grants, the building renovations costs $250,000. But Frontline isn't done growing. Over the next two years, it will construct a new preschool facility and pavilion that will serve more than 70 kids.
