One plus one equals two.

It's one of the easiest math equations around, but imagine hundreds of thousands of students solving millions of math problems a little more difficult than that as a way to get students excited about the subject.

More than 50 kids in Central Florida are taking that challenge.

The students Windy Ridge K-8 school are marathon math masters. In a 48-hour time span, they are answering as many questions correctly as they can.

"It really helps out my brain, jogging my brain, my brain's working," said Alexander Tettenhorst, who placed second in the U.S. and 58th worldwide.

The students work at amazing speeds -- up to 60 math questions are answered right per minute. More than 100 kids at Windy Ridge are racing against the clock and about 1 million students across the country and worldwide. Whoever answers the most questions correctly is crowned World Math Day Champions.

"It's just worth it," Tettenhorst said.

"I could do it all night if I didn't have to sleep," said Morgan Erickson, an 8th grader.

"To have students go home doing math, and doing it frantically, wanting to do more math, it's just a wonderful thing," said Michael Cohen, a teacher.

The entire school answered 136,000 questions correctly. Those impressive numbers helped to rank Windy Ridge 8th in the world and third in the United States out of 20,000 schools.

Just looking at the numbers, there is a good probability they will have a strong showing again next year.
