A study out of Colorado is showing at least 80 percent of the people who sit down with housing counselors are avoiding foreclosure.

Orlando city officials are not surprised, which is why they are getting financial experts together for a series of workshops to prevent foreclosure and predatory lending.

Five workshops are left. The next one is Saturday.

Lelia Allen of Housing and Urban Development said a workshop held earlier in the month changed the lives of several families.

"There were three separate instances that could have potentially taken the homeowners into foreclosure that our consultants and the team of experts were able to address, and send those people in directions where they'll be able to save their homes," Allen said.

Allen encourages anyone who has gotten a foreclosure notice, and anyone whose adjustable rate mortgage is about to increase their monthly payments to go.

Experts will help you understand foreclosure proceedings and tax implications.

Allen said it is also a good opportunity for future one-on-one sessions with local housing counseling agencies.
