A long season of rain can help promote mold. How can you prevent an infestation in your home? Jump on-line.

News 13 discovered several internet sites to help you keep the fungus at bay.

One site suggests homes affected by flooding be cleaned not only after a flood, but again each year to prevent further mold outbreaks.

Meantime, another site explains how to remove mold from upholstery, sofas, mattresses and rugs.

Leave it up to the University of Central Florida to explain "there is no reasonable, reliable and cost-effective means of eliminating mold spores from environments that humans inhabit."

Yet, its Web site does offer tips on how to use your air conditioner in an attempt to fight off mold and how to kill mold by using household items you already have.

The Mayo Clinic believes mold is the leading cause of sinus infections, a condition that affects more than 37 million people.
