The bold, bright colors of Christmas decorations might clash with your home decor, and your place could wind up looking tacky, but a few Central Florida interior designers said they have the solution.
Getting the best results this year might mean putting your decorations in new places.
Tip No. 1 from the experts at In Bloom Florist in Orlando: Keep the color scheme from the outside with your holiday decorations consistent with the inside.
Len Morganseay, an interior designer for In Bloom Florist, said one of the biggest "dos" this holiday season is to use at least one kind of decoration — like ribbons — in each room.
"It's not going to jump out at you; it'll blend right into the home furnishings," Morganseay said.
Tracy Hardy of DeBary is reusing the same artificial decor for her fourth year. She has learned how ribbons can also fill out her tree.
"It makes it actually look like more decor is on the tree," Morganseay said.
Tracy also has a bunch of ornaments that are special to her, so her decorators chose a few places to show them off, including her kitchen.
"All these little ornaments on here that I've collected over the years, they all have a little something to do with cooking," Tracy explained.
Other spare ornaments were used to line her staircase.
"It gives her the ability to use what necessarily wouldn't go with the tree downstairs," Morganseay said.
For Tracy, one of the best parts of dressing up her home with artificial decor is staying put.
"If I had to go and replace everything that's here in fresh every year, there'd be no way that I could afford that," Tracy said. "Every time I come home and I turn on the lights and I see all this. It just makes me feel all warm inside."
All of the holiday decor Tracy uses is stored in a climate-controled environment.
