ORLANDO -- WrestleMania 24 is coming to the City of Orlando. News 13 John Handiboe confirmed professional wrestling giant World Wrestling Entertainment planned to make an official announcement Wednesday morning.
The wrestling extravaganza would take place in the spring of 2008, at the Florida Citrus Bowl, sources explained to Handiboe.
The Central Florida Sports Commission would only say they were holding a press conference to announce a major international event that would attract more than 70,000 visitors from around the world.
The commission said after six months of negotiations, it would be a five-day event within the Central Florida region, bringing significant branding opportunities and television coverage.
News 13 also learned that dignitaries from World Wrestling Entertainment were in Orlando at the beginning of the year to tour the Amway Arena and Citrus Bowl.
The commission said Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, along with John Saboor, president of the Central Florida Sports Commission, and other sports leaders were expected to attend the press conference at the Orlando City Hall Rotunda, scheduled for 10: 30 a.m. Wednesday.
WrestleMania 23 was scheduled to be held in Detroit Sunday, April 1.
