ORLANDO -- How many Haitian refugees will end up in the Orange County Public School system? That's what school leaders are trying to figure out.
A handful of faculty members from various schools in the county were at district headquarters Wednesday afternoon. A group of Haitian students from Evans High School were there too.
They talked to the faculty members about what to expect from incoming Haitian students.
"I am excited for them, but at the same time I'm scared for them, because I remember when I came from Haiti, I used to get picked on a lot and hear a lot of negative connotations,” Nadege Andre, Evans Highs School Senior.
Andre said her father was in Haiti when the earthquake hit. She didn't hear from him for two days. He is safe and back home in Orlando.
School leaders are planning a meeting Thursday morning to prepare for a possible influx of Haitian students.
One of their biggest problems right now is a severe lack of teachers and staff who can speak Haitian-Creole.
