DAYTONA BEACH -- People across the country are honoring the swimmer's amazing achievements and he's also our Central Floridian of the Week.
Port Orange native Ryan Lochte is making a lot of waves.
After winning two gold and two bronze medals at the Beijing Olympics this summer, he is getting a lot of accolades wherever he goes.
In fact, in case you didn't know it Sept. 17 is now Ryan Lochte Day. Daytona Beach Mayor Glenn Ritchie proclaimed it so.
Dozens of people turned out to watch Ritchie give the Spruce Creek High School grad the key to the city.
The 24-year-old was also proclaimed the area's international ambassador by the Convention and Visitor's Bureau of Daytona beach.
Lochte told News 13 he's trying to catch his breath after a whirlwind of attention since his accomplishments in Beijing.
Lochte thanked the crowd for its support and asked for continued support in his quest for a third trip to the Olympics in 2012.
