MELBOURNE -- What was first thought to be a speeding car turned out to be family with a life-threatening emergency, and it ended with Melbourne police Sgt. Danny Lynch coming to the rescue.
The sergeant was sent to pull over a speeding car near U.S. Route 1 and Eau Gallie Boulevard.
The driver pulled over after reaching speeds of about 100 mph, but much to Sgt. Lynch's surprise, inside the car he found two parents trying to get their 4-year-old boy to the hospital.
The boy was unresponsive and turning blue.
The sergeant immediately started performing CPR until paramedics arrived.
"Never done it before, especially in a situation like that," Lynch said. "I'm just glad the child is OK."
Lynch, who has a child the same age, said he was glad he was there to help the parents in the emergency.
The child is doing fine, and was soon released from the hospital.
That is why Melbourne police Sgt. Danny Lynch is our Central Floridian of the Week.
