They came from all walks of life -- some just average citizens, others sworn officers -- but 100 Brevard County deputies, volunteers and residents got top honors from county Sheriff Jack Parker for their outstanding accomplishments and exceptional service to the community.
All 100 have gone above and beyond the call of duty to serve Brevard County.
Deputy Mike Doyle spends hours volunteering. He received the community service award for coaching basketball to keep kids off the street.
"I didn't really know that I would deserve an award, because I love doing this," Doyle said. "This is what I do, and if I could do it 24 hours a day, I would."
Veteran deputies who have been on the force for at least two decades -- some for over 30 years -- were also recognized.
"A lot of people -- it's like family here, just a good bunch of people to work with, and you are able to put something back in the community," said Cpl. Gene Hope, a 31-year veteran.
That is why these veteran deputies are our Central Floridians of the Week.
