Lisa Bell, Central Floridian of the Week
The Lake Brantley Patriots may be called a Pee Wee football team, but there was nothing "Pee Wee" about their accomplishment.
The young football stars recently won the national title in the Pop Warner Super Bowl, and even got some big congratulations from the Seminole County government.
The Patriots' victory over the Santa Margarita (Calif.) Eagles in December was a close one. The Patriots won, 32-30, but head coach John Wagner said that was not the team's only achievement.
"We want them to make sure they have certain grade point averages," Wagner said. "During our season, we find that their academics stay high, their performance stays high, and their parents press on to make sure that level is taken care of."
That is why these champions -- the Lake Brantley Patriot Pee Wee Football Team, who are winners on the field and in the classroom -- are our Central Floridians of the Week.
