Allison Walker, Central Floridian of the Week
Melissa Black remembers that August night, when flames ripped through her mobile home in Marion County.
"I would have lost my husband. All we have is each other," Black said.
Her husband, Dennis, and their dogs were trapped inside, while she frantically waited for firefighters to get there.
Dennis passed out from the smoke inside the burning house.
Marion County fire crews arrived in just minutes, but they had a hard time getting to the Melissa's husband.
"Couldn't see anything. You could feel the heat. We got him out as fast as possible," said firefighter Sean Walker recalling the night he helped save Dennis Black's life.
More than four months later, for the first time, Dennis Black got to thank the firefighters, saying they are the reason he is alive. Click here to read the previous story.
"Thirty seconds can mean a lot, and I want to thank you all for saving me and my family," Dennis said.
"I feel very good today to see that he's okay ,and it really makes me happy," said fire Lt. Jason Morgan "This will be something I'll remember for the rest of my career."
The county gave Jason Morgan and Sean Walker medals of honor for the rescue, but one thing the Blacks got out of their near-tragedy, they said they would continue to thank their hometown heroes, and our Central Floridians of the Week.
