Melbourne - 2 Remember When Concerts Planned With Melbourne Municipal Band

The sounds of summer will have a familiar beat as the Swingtime Jazz Band - part of the Melbourne Municipal Band  - plays two “Remember When” concerts at 6:30 p.m. July 15-16 at the Melbourne Auditorium. They are the second in the band's annual 'Not-In-The-Park' Picnic Concert series and the audience is invited to bring a picnic dinner. Concessions are available.

Musical selections will feature band member Don Staples playing Henry Mancini's popular love theme from The Glenn Miller Story and Art Martin playing tenor saxophone on Skylark. The audience also will be treated to the Buddy Morrow version of Night Train, as well as Bandstand Boogie, the theme to American Bandstand.  Popular local vocalists Sally Hart and Len Fallen will sing during the concert.

Audience members also will see a special performance by the “Swing-N-Sync” Dance Team, directed by Laura and John Beers. On the 15th, they will perform during intermission, and on the 16th they will perform at approximately 6:15 p.m..  Laura Beers (www.adancersvoice.com or 751-4766) regularly provides dance lessons prior to the band's monthly Swingtime dances.

Titusville - Registration Open For BCC Kids Bone Diggers Camp

Registration for the BCC Kids 2009 Bone Diggers Camp, hosted at the Brevard Community College, Titusville campus, is open for students entering the fourth, fifth and sixth grades in the fall.

Students will spend July 13 and 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., exploring a career in archaeology. Elementary school students can spend two days in a fun and very interactive archeology program where they will explore the skills needed for a career in archeology.

Classes will be held at the Brevard Community College Titusville campus, 1311 N. U.S. 1. Lunch and snacks will be provided.  The cost is $65 per child. Registration is required.

Orlando - Day of Activities for the Disabled

PlayDate Foundation Inc., a non-profit corporation, will host a day of food and fun at the Rosen Plaza on International drive. The event will be a day for disabled children around Orlando area to come out and have fun. Activities ranging from the Wii, face painting, food decorating and much much more. At the same time as the event, the organization will be host a panel for parents to attend to ask questions and learn about any available resources for them and their children.

Orlando - School Supply Giveaway

The Ninth Annual School Supply Giveway will get underway at 9 a.m. Saturday, August 8, at Jones High School, Orlando. It's sponsored by State Sen. Gary Siplin and  Orlando City Commissioner Daisy Linum.

The event includes free school supplies for students from kindergarten - 12th grade. The event also includes free haircuts, physicals, community resources, entertainment and prizes.

Advance registration is required at 1436 North Pine Hills Road, Orlando from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Registration forms must be submitted along with a copy of parent identification, children's birth certificate or most recent report card.
