Mother's Day is a time to celebrate women who face the daunting task of raising children.
News 13's Tiffany Greene has the story of how the loss of a mother is allowing two sisters to bring awareness to a deadly disease.
Five women are competing in the Danskin Triathlon on Mother's Day. But, more important than completing the race, they are participating in the 3-part event in memory of a loved one.
"I didn't want to go to church on Mother's Day and talk all about moms and go somewhere all about Mother's Day. I wanted to do something different," said Kaley Crebs.
Kaley, and her younger sister Chloe, lost their mother two years ago to breast cancer.
"My mom was my best friend. She was the pillar of my family and I think the one that holds up all together," Kaley said.
"I just think of the vacations and learning from her what's right and what's wrong," said Chloe Crebs.
Those fond memories of their mom is what led them to compete in only their second triathlon. Through biking, running and swimming, Kaley, Chloe and their mom's close friends will show their support to all women who are affected by breast cancer.
"There were women there that were going through breast cancer, have survived breast cancer or have been touched by this event and by this cause. It was inspiring seeing all these women doing it and completing it," Chloe said.
"I encourage people to know that life is so short and to look at those big things and those obstacles in your life and just know that you can do it, whether it's a triathlon or any other obstacle you're looking to accomplish," Kaley said.
Thousands of women will converge on Disney this Mother's Day for the 19th annual Danskin Women's Triathlon. All the proceeds from the event will go to breast cancer research.
