Tiffany Greene, Building Community
Hard work really does pay off. News 13's Tiffany Greene shows how two Central Florida students are reaping the fruits of their labor.
It is common to hear teachers or even adults give children words of encouragement like, "If you believe it you can achieve it" or "reach for the stars." Well if you hear that enough growing up, it's bound to stick, and for two lucky high schoolers it did.
Pine Ridge senior Mehreen Kassoo received the University of Central Florida Minority Scholarship of $20,000.
Meanwhile Maria Chau, of West Orange, was also awarded with the Magic Achiever Scholarship of $10,000, presented by the team's ambassador Bo Outlaw and Stuff.
"That obviously an honor. I'm extremely happy because I love the Magic. I'm a big fan and I go to their games, so for them to be giving this award to me it means a lot," Chau said.
"I guess it means more opportunities. It means that I don't have to worry about money in college. I don't have to be a starving student," Kassoo said.
The two recipients were chosen out of 160 students. Each student had to have a 3.0 grade point average, be involved in extracurricular activities and write a 500-hundred word essay.
