ORLANDO -- From natural disasters to a shoulder to cry on, the American Red Cross provides countless volunteer hours.
However, funding is always an issue.
Gail McGovern, the president of the American Red Cross, visited the Central Florida chapter Friday.
McGovern is spreading the word about the campaign that's under way to raise $100 million for the National Disaster Relief Fund.
She will also talk to several thousand youth volunteers at the Red Cross National Youth Institute Conference.
The chapter was presented with two major donations worth a total of $40,000.
The donations are a part of the "Help Fill in the Red" fundraising campaign.
“You’re just one storm away from needing their services and you hear about a tragedy or some storm that's come through, devastated lives. It's always the American Red Cross. They're there immediately helping the families,” said attorney Todd Miner, who donated $15,000.
The Central Florida chapter responded to 240 local disasters last year, helped 361 families and taught almost 16,000 people First Aid and CPR.
