LAKE BUENA VISTA -- Oil magnate and alternative energy advocate T. Boone Pickens brought his Pickens plan to Central Florida Monday.
Pickens was the keynote speaker for the Alternative Fuels & Vehicles National Conference & Expo at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort.
Boone is calling for major investments in wind energy and to convert vehicles to natural gas, which he said would reduce our reliance on foreign oil.
“It can happen pretty fast if the leadership wants it to happen. Now you're gonna have some legislation that's gonna help all this. But I would say that in five years you'd be able to get 300, 400,000 18 wheelers on the highway. What does that do for us? It creates 450,000 jobs, is one thing, but also it reduces our dependence on foreign oil by 5 percent,” Pickens said.
Pickens also said local governments need to take a serious look at how mass transit vehicles and government vehicles, like dump trucks, are fueled.
At the end of the day, Pickens said he's for any alternative fuel plan as long as it’s American.
