ORLANDO -- Are you ready to pay an extra 25 cents per toll on Central Florida toll roads? If the answer is no, pay attention.
On Thursday, the Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority is holding a public hearing on a plan that would increase tolls 25 cents throughout its 105-mile system.
The new fares would go into effect April 5 if the Expressway Authority’s board approves.
Authority spokeswoman Lindsay Hodges said 11 months of dwindling ridership and falling revenues forced the agency's hand. The 25 cent raise is supposed to restore revenues to levels that were forecast before the recession hit, according to the authority.
The Expressway Authority also says the proposed increases would allow the authority to resume borrowing money to expand and improve the system, which includes state Roads 408, 417, 429, 414 and part of 528.
The public hearing is set for 4 p.m. at the Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority board room, which is located at 4974 ORL Tower Road in Orlando.
