KISSIMMEE -- Major layoffs at one of Central Florida's biggest resorts as the Gaylord Palms Resort cut about 100 jobs at its Kissimmee resort Monday.
About 1,700 employees worked at Gaylord Palms before the layoffs.
The resort is owned by Nashville hotel company Gaylord Entertainment.
The company cut about 350 jobs companywide, or about 3.5 percent of its total workforce.
In a conference call with analysts Feb. 10, Chief Executive Colin Reed included staff reductions as one of several measures the company would under take to save an estimated $35 million.
Other steps Reed listed were freezing salary for management, eliminating benefits and curbing travel.
In all, the company owns four resorts. The company cut about 180 positions in Nashville from the company’s corporate headquarters, Opryland Hotel and area attractions.
The company hotel in Texas and the resort in Washington, D.C. each laid off about 30 employees.
