Helping Children Cope With Hurricane Stress
Tuesday, May 15, 2007 10:30:22 PM
Hurricanes can be stressful hurricanes on adults, but they can also have a large impact on children.
Hurricanes can catch children off guard, leaving them open to emotional trauma.
Some of the external symptoms include excessive crying and aggressive behavior.
It is important to talk to children about an approaching storm, but don't scare them unnecessarily.
Emotional symptoms should subside once the storm has cleared and life returns back to normal.
Remember, a child's ability to cope depends of their mental state.
During hurricane season, News 13's team of meteorologists will have tropical updates at 21 minutes and 51 minutes past every hour.
